The short version

We use no advertising or tracking cookies and we sell nothing about you to anyone. We measure traffic to our own site, in a way that does not identify you.

That is why there is no cookie consent banner here — there is nothing to ask consent for.

How we measure traffic

When you open a page, our server records which page you opened, which site you came from, your approximate country, the kind of device (phone, tablet, computer), the language and the time. We also record what you did on the page — which calendar day you opened, what you searched for, whether you played the audio.

We do not store your IP address. It is used for a moment only — to produce an anonymous marker that lets us tell two visitors apart within the same day. The markers change every night, and nobody can work back from one to the original IP address, ourselves included.

The consequence is that we genuinely cannot follow you over time. A visitor who comes today and again tomorrow is two different people to us. It is less precise, and it is a price we are glad to pay.

We do this on the basis of legitimate interest under Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR — we need to know which topics people care about in order to decide who to write about next. You may object to this processing; see below.

What the site stores on your device

The traffic measurement stores nothing on your device. The site does remember two small things so that it behaves sensibly:

A short-lived cookie, kal_intro, remembers that you have already seen the opening introduction, so it does not play on every load. It disappears when you close your browser.

Your browser's local storage holds kalendarium-theme — the colour theme you chose yourself.

Neither is used for tracking and neither leaves your browser. You can remove them by clearing the site's data in your browser settings.

Who else sees the data

The site runs on servers operated by Vercel Inc. (USA) and the database is operated by Supabase Inc. (USA). Both act as our processors, and the transfer to the USA is covered by the EU–US Data Privacy Framework.

Vercel additionally provides its own traffic and performance measurement (Vercel Analytics and Speed Insights). Neither uses cookies.

The page's fonts are loaded from Google Fonts, which means your IP address reaches Google. This is common practice, but we think it is right to say so plainly.

We give the data to nobody else, we do not sell it and we do not use it for advertising.

How long we keep it

Visit records are deleted after two years. The anonymous markers that tell visitors apart within a day stop being valid every night.

Your rights

Under the GDPR you have the right to access your data, to have it corrected or erased, to restrict its processing and to object to it.

We have to be honest about one thing. Because the traffic data holds nothing that could establish your identity, we cannot find your particular rows in our records. So we can neither hand them over nor delete them — not out of ill will, but because we cannot tell you apart in them (Art. 11 GDPR). If you would rather not be measured at all, turn on Do Not Track in your browser; we respect it and then nothing is sent.

If you believe we handle your data wrongly, you may complain to the Office for Personal Data Protection of the Slovak Republic, Hraničná 12, 820 07 Bratislava, dataprotection.gov.sk.

Changes

Whenever something changes on the site that concerns data, we will update this page and change the date at the top.
